Hypocrisy, hypocrisy, thy name is Ed Decker.... - Let me begin by saying that I am not LDS, nor am I an evangelical Christian, I don t have a horse in this race. However, I have had the rather dubious pleasure of speaking with Decker personally, and have rummaged through BYU s library on a number of research sorties. The history of every world religion is littered with scandal, and while Decker denounces the more ludicrous LDS practices with the zeal of a former smoker decrying the evils of tobacco, he is quick to overlook the sins of his closest friends. His defense of Christian con-men like Bob Larson, Jim Spencer, and Bill Schnobelen is truly astounding, if any LDS official was caught doing half of what Larson has been caught doing, Decker would surely have another stroke.Ed Decker s magnum opus should be read, if at all, with roughly a year s supply of salt -- and an eye toward the fact that the LDS Church has responded to his criticisms. That s not something that Bob Larson, Mike Warnke, or any of Ed s other friends can do....

Hard to accept the truth - This is a very accurate book. I like in Salt Lake City and have many friends who have gone through temple ceremonies and were extremely surprised that I knew what happened. I ask them exact things from this book that Mr. Decker writes about and they are stunned that I would know how accurately some of their ceremonies are carried out. Many of them are shocked to find out what some of these ceremonies mean in Wiccan ceremonies and Mason ceremonies and how close they are to one another. The one thing that Ed Decker has made a mistake in is that he does write this book book with an inflammatory angle. He means to make mormons mad and he achieves that. This book is full of usefull information it just needs to be presented to your mormon friends in a more loving manner. Ask them questions about it. Don t make mention that you ve read this book. Just ask questions and then explain to your friends what the rituals and ceremonies mean. Ask your friends the questions and then give them biblical references about the problems. Teach your friends in love

a good companion to this book - If you read this book, I highly suggest that you read this companion to it immediately before making any conclusions:Gilbert Scharffs, The Truth About The God Makers (Publishers Press, Salt Lake City, Utah, 1986)And there is also another book I have seen called they that lie in wait to deceive but I haven t had the chance to read it yet. Both of these cover the lies included in The God Makers. The book is really amazing at how inaccurate it is. Might be interesting to you, but like I said, read the other side of the story along with it.

Simply not the truth - I really don t have a lot to say about this one. It contains almost an infinate number of misrepresentations and distortions about Latter-day Saints. It s generally considered the worst of the religious bigotry out there. It s so bad that even most other LDS Church critics have had to denounce it. They feel such obvious lies undercut their legitimate efforts to undercut the Church. Editor, All About Mormons web site.

An Evil, Dishonest, Inflammatory, Sensationalistic Book - There is scarcely a page in this piece of religious pornography that is either honest or true. Decker distorts his sources, misrepresents Mormon beliefs at every point, always goes for the most titillating rhetoric. To top it off, it s obvious that he really knows little about Latter-day Saint doctrine and history. I find it a sad commentary on the gullibility of a large sector of the public that this thing has sold as well as it has. The book is on a par with the National Inquirer, only far less scrupulous and much more malicious. The Christian bookstore in my hometown refuses to carry anything by Ed Decker. Why? Because, the owner told me, he has a problem telling the truth. Quite so. Even the career anti-Mormons Jerald and Sandra Tanner hold him in disdain -- which is much to their credit.
